AUSTELL, Ga. (Diya TV) — Six Flags temporarily closed nine roller coasters across six parks after an Atlanta man died Monday when he was ejected from a ride at Six Flags Over Georgia.
Cobb County police identified the victim as Hassan Jihad Ibn Kariem, forty-two. Investigators said he struck other riders before landing beneath the attraction shortly before four p.m.
Officers found Kariem unconscious and not breathing. He was later pronounced dead. Four other people were injured and taken to a hospital. Authorities have not released their conditions.
Police and Georgia’s Office of Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner are investigating. Officials have not announced why Kariem left his seat or determined whether a restraint or other equipment malfunctioned.
Television footage showed passengers being evacuated from the stopped Goliath roller coaster. The attraction opened in 2006 and reaches approximately two hundred feet in height and seventy miles per hour.
Six Flags said it closed similar coasters “out of an abundance of caution.” The company expressed condolences to Kariem’s family and said employees and emergency responders acted immediately.
The park said it was cooperating with investigators and providing support to affected guests and employees. It did not announce a reopening date for the temporarily closed attractions.
Six Flags Over Georgia was already scheduled to remain closed Tuesday. Investigators continued examining the incident while one of Goliath’s trains remained stopped on its track.
Authorities have not released findings establishing the cause of the fatal fall.
