NEW DELHI (Diya TV) — Prime Minister Narendra Modi met former British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Bloomberg founder Michael Bloomberg in New Delhi Tuesday. In a separate conversation, Modi and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney reaffirmed their commitment to conclude negotiations on a trade agreement.
Canada’s prime minister’s office said the leaders discussed the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement and efforts to double bilateral trade by 2030. They also agreed to remain in contact ahead of Modi’s planned visit to Canada in December.
Their conversation covered energy, agriculture, artificial intelligence, security and people-to-people ties. Both leaders welcomed a Canadian trade mission to India led by International Trade Minister Maninder Sidhu and Foreign Minister Anita Anand’s visit to New Delhi.
They also reviewed recent security and law enforcement discussions between the countries. The Canadian statement described Tuesday’s engagement as a conversation, rather than an in-person meeting at the forum.
Modi met Sunak at the Bloomberg New Economy Forum, which India is hosting for the first time. Sunak highlighted India-UK cooperation in trade, technology and artificial intelligence in a post on X.
He also congratulated Modi on completing twenty-five years in public office. Modi first became Gujarat’s chief minister in 2001 before taking office as prime minister in 2014.
During his meeting with Bloomberg, Modi welcomed the company’s plans to expand its presence in India. The two discussed Bloomberg’s operations as the company marks three decades in the country.
Neither the prime minister’s statement nor the public account of that meeting specified an investment amount, hiring target or expansion timetable.
The Bloomberg New Economy Forum runs in New Delhi through Thursday, bringing together political leaders, investors and business executives for discussions on the global economy, technology and trade.
