OTTAWA, Ontario (Diya TV) — Canadian International Trade Minister Maninder Sidhu is leading nearly three hundred business delegates to India as the two countries seek to conclude a comprehensive trade agreement by year-end.

The mission, running through Saturday with stops in Mumbai and Bengaluru, is Canada’s largest trade delegation to India in more than three decades, Global Affairs Canada said.

Participating companies represent aerospace, clean technology, energy, information technology, life sciences and agriculture. Delegates will meet Indian businesses and prospective customers to pursue contracts, investment and partnerships.

The visit supports Ottawa’s goal of increasing annual bilateral trade to seventy billion Canadian dollars by 2030. Goods and services trade between the countries totaled approximately thirty billion Canadian dollars in 2025.

Canada also aims to double exports to markets outside the United States over the next decade.

Global Affairs Canada reported that Indian multinational companies employed nearly thirty-eight thousand people through their Canadian affiliates in 2024. Canadian companies employed nearly sixty-nine thousand people through affiliates in India.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Mark Carney and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed their commitment to conclude negotiations on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement at the earliest opportunity.

Their conversation covered trade, energy, agriculture, artificial intelligence and security. They also welcomed Sidhu’s trade mission and Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand’s visit to New Delhi this week.

Carney’s office confirmed that Modi plans to visit Canada in December. The leaders agreed to remain in contact ahead of that trip.

Trade negotiations have resumed alongside efforts to rebuild relations after the diplomatic dispute over the 2023 killing of Sikh activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia. Canada alleged Indian government involvement; India denied the allegation.

The governments have set a year-end negotiating target but have not announced a completed agreement.
